Upcoming Field Trips

DATE DAY TIME TOPIC
February 13-14
Saturday and Sunday
9:00 a.m.

An informal gathering of GSOC members and guests will be attending this year's annual Fossil Fest event at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon. Interested parties should make their own arrangements for overnight lodging on Saturday if they desire to stay for the entire weekend. The Fossil Fest event (not yet listed on the Hatfield Center's website) will take place only on Saturday, from 9 am until about 4 pm. Bring your fossils in to have them identified. Bill Orr and Ellen Morris Bishop are the scheduled speakers.

GSOC will have a table there with information for prospective members. Stop by and introduce yourself to the members at the table if you would like to join us for other activities. In the past, we have gone out for lunch together on Saturday, then arranged to meet at one of the local restaurants for dinner early. An after dinner social may be arranged. On Sunday, we often walk on the beach to look for fossils in situ, along with members of the Northwest Research Group (NARG). A few suggestions for lodging include the popular, but more spendy Moolack Shores Motel north of Newport on Hwy 101, the more reasonably priced and centrally located Econolodge Motel, and pet-friendly Shilo Inn.

Because this is not a formal field trip, there is no charge and no registration is necessary. GSOC takes no responsibility for participants.
