I got a degree in theology from Multnomah University in 1971. Immediately I left for Europe, where I was an evangelical missionary for 10+ years in England. (Don't ask why!) I was much better at graphic design than I was spreading my religion. We moved back to the USA in 1990, and I was the NW Production Manager for Auto Trader Magazines, and then worked at The Oregonian newspaper as a graphic designer. And in my retirement I still design the NW Examiner newspaper, which is a monthly that covers the downtown Portland area. During those years, I gave up my religious beliefs, and almost immediately became fascinated with geology, even though I had no science education to speak of. I joined GSOC, and then my son caught my love of rocks, and opened a coffee shop on SE Foster, called Carnelian Coffee, which many GSOC'ers have visited. He knows way more about rocks these days than I do! I took a few geology classes at PSU in the last few years, which I loved. I wish my mind could retain more of what I learned in those classes, but I'm happy to contribute to the success of GSOC, in whatever small ways I can!
